Towra Point Cleanup

On Sunday 17 May 4 spearos from the Revesby Workers Spearfishing Club assisted the National Parks and other interested volunteers in cleaning up the Towra Point area.
While most people were at the State Titles I was able to coerce my son and 2 of his mates with an offer - that if they helped with the clean up I would take them out spearing for the same amount of time and show them a few old spearo tricks.
We were given the job of recovering anything that was in the water and deeper than your knee, like an old oyster boat, 44 gallon drums etc
The jobs were enjoyable and we made some new acquaintances with some linos who also believe there are better ways of fish conservation then being locked out.
Craig Shepherd organised the day which ran smoothly and fuss free, I would gladly donate more of my time to assisting Craig and the other National Park officers who have the same environmental concerns as most spearos.

The National Parks were so appreciated that we gave up our time and put in the effort to attend, that they donated 2 eskies as raffle prizes and guess who won one - YES me!

So after the clean up and a warm chicken sandwich washed down with a cold soft drink all donated by the National Parks, I took the boys out the front of Kurnell and it was BIG.
I couldn't anchor so I went boatie and shouted instructions to them. It must have worked as they all got a feed and the sawtails they picked up were huge.

I would encourage others to attend the next cleanup and enjoy the comradery.

Gary Crawford.
